nextavenue published an article recently about hospice and common myths associated with hospice care. The “myths” outlined in the article are important to debunk, as the article made clear – especially for those who want to understand their end-of-life choices for themselves and their loved ones.
Hospice care is slowly becoming more genuinely understood and, therefore, better-utilized by individuals, their physicians, and their families. All too often, as the article states, the ill individual or their family/friends don’t understand what hospice care is and what it can do (how/why/when to use hospice). As a result, they can be robbed of an important stage in the end-of-life process, or deny themselves the use of an immensely supportive tool to physically, medically, emotionally, and spiritually deal with their own end-of-life experience and those of their loved ones. Read the article and make sure you understand hospice care. Re-evaluate your expectations of hospice if you’re a current believer of any of the “myths.”
Here’s another article from forbes.com that may help those who are unfamiliar with hospice understand what hospice may do/may not do for you, your loved ones, and family.
