Many like the idea of taking care of funeral/burial expenses in advance for a number of reasons: some know their families would appreciate knowing their wishes; some simply want to decide for themselves; some are concerned about the burden on their families of paying for the arrangements; and some choose to purchase burial plans in advance because most advance-pay funeral arrangements are an allowable expenditure without penalty during the five-year look back period for Medical Assistance (MA) eligibility.
Funeral arrangements can be overwhelming for many reasons, and those considering making those arrangements should know their choices and their consumer rights.
